Hortuculture

This
consists of one green house measuring 6m by 30m,
and a vegetable garden. The greenhouse is mostly
used for tomato production. The Vegetable gardens
cover an area of 2 acres with various types of vegetables
crops such as cabbages, kales, Carrots, Spinach,
Beans, Irish potatoes, Green Pepper.
Dairy

Consists
of 8 dairy animals with 10 calves. Of these, four
are Ayrshire and four are Friesian five of the
calves are Ayrshire and five are Friesian.
The
Tea Plantation

These cover an area of 21 acres and are of mixed
clones. Various management practices are normally
carried out within the tea farm including Plucking,
Pruning Weeding (chemical and manual weeding)
and fertilizer application.

Potatoes and Banana Plantation

Potatoes
This is a trial being carried out by KARI within
the University farm with the aim of releasing
new varieties of the plant to the farmers within
the South Rift region.
Banana Plantation
The plantation covers an area of 0.4 acres with
approximately 500 plants of the following varieties;
Ngombe, Sweet bananas and Meru Short Stump.

Farming
This is a relatively new enterprise within the
farm. Fish pond construction is currently on going.
The ponds are expected to carry a population of
4,000 fish of Tilapia species
Rabbit Rearing
This is done mainly for educational purposes.
Two breeds are reared within the farm, which are
New Zealand White and Chilchila.
Agro
Forestry

This
covers an area of 20 acres along the edge of the
river. The forest cover consists of various tree
species, such as Graviella robusta, Eucalyptus
spp. Cypress and a few indigenous trees. Bee keeping
is done within the forested area. Currently twenty
five beehives are found.
