UoK Vice-Chancellor Represents Principal Secretary at Finlays Community Trust Scholarship Awards Ceremony

On 14th August 2025, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kabianga, Prof. Eric Koech, represented the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, CBS, at the Finlays Community Trust Undergraduate Scholarships 2025 Awards held at the Fair Hills Hotel in Bomet County.

The event, organized by Browns (Finlays) Community Trust, brought together stakeholders in the education and development sectors to celebrate the impact of the Trust’s scholarship and community empowerment initiatives. The Trust, which was inaugurated in 2021, focuses on supporting education through annual scholarships and development of educational infrastructure in Bomet and Kericho counties.

In her message delivered by Prof. Koech, Dr. Inyangala commended the Finlays Community Trust for its unwavering commitment to improving access to education, research and innovation in the region. She highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in driving inclusive development and empowering youth through education.

The scholarship awards ceremony recognized beneficiaries across multiple educational levels. To date, the Trust has awarded scholarships to 586 secondary school students, 80 TVET students, 428 undergraduate students, and 25 postgraduate students. The 2025 awards continue this impactful tradition, with 28 undergraduate students from Bomet and Kericho counties receiving support this year.

In his remarks, Prof. Koech praised the Finlays Community Trust for its integrated approach to community development, which includes student mentorship, water and infrastructure projects and environmental conservation efforts. He emphasized the University of Kabianga's commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to uplift communities through education and innovation.
